QUEZON CITY, July 1 (PIA) – Re-elected Marikina City Mayor Del de Guzman has vowed to keep disaster risk reduction, education and employment as his top priorities on his second term as local chief executive.
De Guzman took his oath of office Sunday before Judge Lorna Chua-Cheng, the executive judge of Marikina Regional Trial Court at the Marikina Convention Center, Barangay Concepcion Dos, Marikina City.
De Guzman said his administration aims to create more jobs through inviting more investors to sustain the local shoe industry; reinforcing the peace and order through installation of 100 state of the art close-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in the city's strategic locations, constructing a 24/7 Command Center and sending SMS/text blasts.
He added that the city also prioritizes flood mitigation and disaster risk reduction. The local government will purchase its own dredging machine which will be utilized to increase the carrying capacity of the Marikina River and make it a more effective floodway.
“The city will also make the pumping station located at the Provident Village and other pumping stations in low-lying areas fully operational, and will also place additional pumping stations should the need arises.” De Guzman said.
Meanwhile, De Guzman said the city will construct more schools as the quality of education will still be one of the top priorities.
A new City Hall will be launched to make room for efficient and client-friendly transactions in the local government.
“The city will continue to be champion in the aspect of health through taking health-related projects and programs to higher level,” De Guzman added.
De Guzman calls for the local residents' cooperation for the successful implementation of the said plans and programs.
"Let us set aside our differences and let us work together in making Marikina a better place to live in", De Guzman said. (MARIKINA-PIO/EPC/RJB/PIA-NCR)
