MANILA, 6 May (PIA) – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and Japan Coast Guard (JCG) are holding a bilateral and Joint Maritime Law Enforcement (MARLEN) Exercise Wednesday, May 6 at the vicinity waters of Manila Bay.
Japan Coast Guard Commandant Admiral Yuji Sato was welcomed by the officers and men of the coast guard Monday at the PCG Headquarters in Manila.
Sato led his crew aboard PLH 22 Yashima - a 5,204 ton search and rescue patrol vessel.
PLH22 Yashima will participate in the activity with their assets consisting of a helicopter (Helicopter Bell 412) and rigid hull inflatable boat for board, search and seizure procedure. Likewise, the PCG will also deploy its floating and air assets to take part in the joint exercise.
The joint exercise will focus on combating piracy and armed robbery at sea. Delegates of Heads of Asian Coast Guard Agencies will be among the observers in the joint exercise.
According to PCG, the event aims to further enhance the capabilities of PCG and JCG in combating piracy and armed robbery at sea, to acquire knowledge and skills in conducting airlift rescue operations, and to established friendship and mutual understanding among the Heads of Asian Coast Guard agencies specifically between the two coast guards.
The vessel will stay for the duration of the joint hosting of PCG and JCG of the 11th Heads of Asian Coast Guard Agencies-High Level Meeting until 07 May in Manila. (PCG/RJB/JEG/PIA-NCR)
