MANILA, Oct. 9 (PIA) – A fragment of the monumental Berlin Wall can now be seen at the National Museum in Manila.
The unveiling of Fragment 22 of the Berlin Wall on Wednesday was led by Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario with German Parliamentary State Secretary Brigitte Zypries as guest of honor, together with officials from both countries.
The 3.3 meters high and 2.5-ton fragment is a gift of the City of Berlin to the Filipino people, after the People Power Revolution of 1986 that inspired the Fall of the Berlin Wall, reuniting East and West Germany. It used to stand at the Potsdamer Platz
“This part of the Wall is a gift by the Senate of the City of Berlin to the Philippine Government and the Philippine people in remembrance of the peaceful EDSA Revolution which happened just a few years before a peaceful revolution by the people of East-Berlin tore down the Berlin Wall that divided Germany,” German Ambassador to the Philippines Thomas Ossowski said.
