Makati City, May 31, (PIA) - - The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Emerson Carlos invited the public to participate in the coming Metro Manila shake drill on June 22, 2016.
The invitation was made during the launching of the Metro Manila ShakeDrill website on Monday, May 30, 2016.
Chairman Carlos said that the public may join the metro wide earthquake drill either as individual, group or organization to save one’s self and to save other lives as well. He also urges the people to use the #MMShakeDrill hashtag which will give a link to the Agos Site-where netizens' post will be plotted on the map.
“We need to engage more people, we need to engage most residents of Metro Manila. We need to engage people of Rizal, Cavite, Bulacan and Laguna. All sectors must participate in the earthquake drill,” Carlos urged.
He added, “ We need all sectors to participate in the drill to minimize VICTIMS. Once we survive, our families will survive, our neighbors will survive, because you, will be able to help. Every survivor is an additional rescuer,” Carlos emphasized.
The Metro Manila ShakeDrill website #http://mmshakedrill was launched on May 30, 2016 to drum up and raise public awareness of the metrowide earthquake drill on June 22, 2016. The website also contains information and advisories regarding earthquake preparedness.
PHIVOLCS Director Dr. Renato Solidum who is one of the speaker said that he supports the website and will be linking this to the Phivolcs website. He stressed the importance of visiting the mmshakedrill website because it will show what is supposed to happen once a real big earthquake come along and it will also teach the public what they need to do before and after.
“The Metro Manila shake drill website is one big tool in prepping the public to a possible destructive scenario. Just browse the mmshakedrill.ph for answers to questions of your safety,” Solidum said.
MMDA thru the leadership of Director Carlos and in partnership with Rappler and Globe telecom spearheaded the launching of the website which contains all information and advisories regarding the June 22, 2016 metrowide earthquake drill.
The event was organized with the help of several partners including local and regional disaster risk reduction management officers, information officers in Metro Manila, and different media organizations.
MMDA stressed that visitors of the website, //www: mmshakedrill.ph, will get basic, but very vital, survival tips and list of evacuation centers in the event of the 7.2 magnitude earthquake as it will contain Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).
The website will also detail the Oplan Metro Yakal Plus, MMDA’s disaster contingency plan drawn up for the regional disaster response.
And most important, to ensure maximum public participation, the website will feature the instructions on how to sign up as participants, whether by individual or by group.

The 2nd Metro Manila ShakeDrill will be held at the same time as the national government’s Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill on June 22 at around 9 a.m. (RJB/LFB/PIA-NCR)
