PNP chief warns prank callers on 911 emergency hotline

QUEZON CITY, August 02 (PIA) – With the launching of the country’s emergency hotline or better known as 911, Philippine National Police Director General Ronald M. Dela Rosa gave a stern warning against prank callers.

“We are currently tracking the prank callers and we will make sure that you will be unmasked,” PNP Chief Dela Rosa said.

According to the PNP, as of 7:00 AM (Monday), Emergency Hotline 911 recorded a total of 2,475 calls with 75 legitimate handled calls; 1,119 dropped calls; and 304 pranks calls.   The PNP chief also appealed to the public to avoid making prank calls.   “I am also appealing to our people to refrain from making prank calls or test calls to our 911 hotline because this will clog up the lines and prevent the people with real emergencies to reach us,” Dela Rosa said.

Since the activation of Emergency Hotline 911 various calls for emergencies were responded by the joint PNP, Bureau of Fire Protection and Department of Health like ambulance assistance, vehicular accidents and other complaints like illegal drug activities, riots, and drinking in public places.

The PNP chief also directed all its 18 Police Regional Offices, 85 Police Provincial Offices, 20 City Police Offices, 117 City Police Stations, 1,494 Municipal Police Stations and the five (5) Districts of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) to respond to emergencies with their available resources.

“Again, I am calling all Chiefs of Police all over the country to be alert and respond to the calls routed to you by our 911 call center and to immediately provide police assistance to our people when needed,”  the PNP chief stressed.

Emergency Hotline 911 is the adaptation of the Davao Central 911 that aims to provide the public vital and efficient link to the emergency resources of government such as police, medical, rescue, fire on a 24-hour basis, nationwide. (PNP/RJB/JEG/PIA-NCR)
