MMDA cleans up creeks; collected tons of garbage, silt

MAKATI CITY, Sept. 21 (PIA) – The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) led the cleaning of creeks and esteros in the metropolis and collected more than 1,400 truckloads of garbage and silt.   MMDA General Manager Tim Orbos ordered the intensification of the cleanup activity especially with the threat of La Niña.   

Under MMDA’s ‘Estero Blitz’ program, hundreds of MMDA Flood Control and Sewerage Management Office (FCSMO) personnel collected a total of 1,453 truckloads or 11,742 cubic meters of garbage and silt from various creeks and waterways in Metro Manila during the three-month cleanup operations.   

According to MMDA, among the de-clogged waterways include Maytunas Creek in Mandaluyong City, Estero de Magdalena and Roxas Canal in Manila, Tanigue Creek and Pasong Malapad Creek in Caloocan City, and Dario Creek in Quezon City.   FCSMO personnel conducted the cleanup operations from July 13, 2016 up to September 9, 2016 on said waterways.   

Likewise, MMDA personnel cleaned the Estero de Kabulusan, Estero de Magdalena, Estero de San Miguel, Estero de Quiapo, North and South Antipolo Canal, Cut-Cut Creek, Pasong Diablo River, Kantarilla Creek, Coastal Open Canal, Pinagsama Creek, and Pateros River between March and May this year.
