MM police gears up for Black Nazarene feast

MANILA, 4 January (PIA) - After the Holiday rush, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) is gearing up for the annual Traslacion in line with the Feast of the Black Nazarene in Quiapo, Manila on Monday, January 9.   

NCRPO chief Oscar Albayalde said, around 2,000 policemen will be deployed in Manila which will also be augmented by local security forces. 

Likewise, the Armed Forces of the Philippines are on alert and working closely with NCRPO for the upcoming feast.   

The schedule of activities for the Feast of the Black Nazarene are:   

January 2-6, 2017 7:00 p.m. Barangay Visitation 
January 7, 2017 2:00 p.m. Procession of Replicas of the Black Nazarene 
January 8, 2017 5:00 p.m. – onwards  Fiesta Vigil  Quirino Grandstand (Luneta) 
January 9, 2017 12:00 a.m. Eucharistic Celebration Quirino Grandstand (Luneta) 3:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Hourly Eucharistic Celebration Quiapo Church
January 10, 2017 Arrival of the Black Nazarene  Quiapo Church   

Every January 9, the Traslación of the Black Nazarene makes its way along the streets of the Quiapo district.  

 The image of the Black Nazarene was brought to the Philippines by an unknown Recollect priest from Mexico during the Galleon trade. From the Church of Recollect Fathers in Intramuros, it was transferred to Quiapo Church according to the wish of the Archbishop Manila at that time.   

Since then, the image of Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno has been enshrined in the center altar of the Church where it is visible to thousands of devotees. (NCRPO/RCAM/RJB/JEG/PIA-NCR)
