TAGUIG CITY, Nov. 8 (PIA) -- The City Government of Taguig has deployed personnel from its Disaster and Rescue Unit and Social Welfare and Development Office to augment the government's team that will secure the 31st Association of Southeast Asian Nation Summit next week.
In a ceremonial send-off on Sunday, November 5 at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila, the Taguig team joined the 60,000 personnel from the different national government agencies and local government units tasked to ensure peace and order during ASEAN Summit.
Meanwhile, in a statement, Interior and Local Government officer-in-charge Catalino Cuy said that the troops will be deployed to key strategic areas in Metro Manila and Pampanga to ensure the safety and security of the ASEAN delegates.
Cuy added that aside from the large deployment of troops, government resources are also prepared to monitor, respond and provide support during the event.
These resources include 203 patrol cars, 394 motorcycles, 22 armored cars, 30 helicopters, 59 fire trucks, 94 ambulances, 125 explosive detection dogs/K9, and 82 sniper teams.
Cuy said that several Joint Task Groups, and Sub-Task Units (STUs) have also been organized and are on deck with their personnel and logistics to ensure that the summit will run as smoothly and peacefully as possible.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) also has its 19,000-strong police force all set and ready for ASEAN 2017.
This year’s ASEAN Summit will be attended by heads of state of the 10 ASEAN-member nations, dialogue partners, observer states, and other invited delegates from the Asia-Pacific region. (TAGUIG/DILG/RJB/JEG/PIA-NCR)
