MARIKINA CITY, June 28 (PIA) – The cities of Marikina and Davao formally inked their Sister City Agreement on Wednesday, June 27 in a simple ceremony held at the country’s ‘Shoe Capital’.
Marikina City Mayor Marcy Teodoro and Davao City Vice Mayor Bernard Al-ag, representing Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, signed the Agreement in the presence of local officials of both cities.
Teodoro thanked Davao City officials for partnering with them, saying unity and cooperation are integral components of development.
Teodoro said the agreement opens the door for business partnerships as well as trade and commerce between the two cities.
“Marikina is now developing in various trade areas so we could bring our products in those areas. Here in Luzon, we have shoe caravans  to introduce our products and establish trade and commerce,” Teodoro said.
For his part, Vice Mayor Al-ag, in behalf of Davao City Mayor Sara-Duterte, thanked the city government of Marikina for the warm welcome.
He said growth and success can be achieved by forging agreements, and also by sharing and learning from best practices.
Al-ag said he looks forward to stronger ties that will be beneficial for the cities of Davao and Marikina, especially in the fields of trade, tourism, education, and social service.
The Davao City officials also brought Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio’s “PagbaBago” Program wherein some 500 school children in Marikina were given school supplies and some 500 reproductive mothers were given family planning kits.(PIA-NCR)
