PASIG CITY, (PIA) -- The Philippine Navy has activated its disaster response and recovery teams (DDRTs) to help barangays affected by Tropical Cyclone Jolina.

Navy Spokesperson Commander Benjo Negranza said these DRRTs, composing of the Naval Task Force (NTF) 83, were earlier deployed in Marikina City due to the heavy rains brought by Severe Tropical Storm Jolina.

"They are composed of fleet and marine forces from (the) Manila and Cavite area and are equipped with rubber boats, trucks and other necessary rescue and mobility equipment," Negranza added.

Marikina City, including several low-lying areas in Metro Manila were inundated in floodwaters due to non-stop rains brought by Severe Tropical Storm Jolina (international name Conson) on Wednesday.

The Marikina Public Information Office reported that the Marikina River is still at a normal level at 14.6 meters as of 1 p.m.

The first alarm for the Marikina River is at 15 meters, which means residents in low-lying areas must prepare to evacuate.

In its 2 p.m. tropical cyclone bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration reported that the center of "Jolina" was last estimated in the vicinity of San Nicolas, Batangas.

It is packing maximum sustained winds of 95 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center, gustiness of up to 160 kph, and is moving northwestward at 15 kph. (PN/PIA-NCR)
