MANILA (PIA) — The National Capital Region Police Office has deployed more than 17,000 police personnel across Metro Manila to ensure the public’s convenience and safety amid activities marking the 54th anniversary of the declaration of martial law on Monday, Sept. 21.
According to NCRPO spokesperson Lt. Col. Hazel Asilo, the Metro Manila police deployment, including contingents from the Calabarzon-DAR-MIMAROPA (CDM) and neighboring regions, stood at 17,085 as of 12 noon, Sunday.
Authorities reiterated that the increased police presence is meant to protect participants and residents who may be affected, consistent with the Marcos Jr. administration’s thrust of public service.
Officials also said mobilizations are expected at key sites including EDSA Shrine, the People Power Monument, Mendiola, and Liwasang Bonifacio, as well as areas near national government offices such as the Senate and the House of Representatives.
Asilo said the NCRPO’s assessment estimates about 3,000 attendees at the planned gatherings.
She added that organizers were reminded to secure the necessary permits to allow authorities to make preparations, including traffic rerouting and security arrangements.
“The public’s convenience and safety are priorities,” Asilo said, urging cooperation between protest organizers and law enforcement to ensure smooth coordination.
As of Sunday, the NCRPO said it had not monitored any validated threats for Monday, but said it would continue monitoring in case disruptions occur during the commemorations. (JCO/PIA-NCR)
