QUEZON CITY, Feb. 27 (PIA) -- The Department of
Education (DepEd) has announced that the opening of classes for school year
2013–2014 in public elementary and secondary schools will be on June 3, a
Monday.
DepEd Order 10,
series of 2013, details the school calendar for School Year (SY) 2013-2014 for
elementary and high schools in the country.
DepEd order said
that SY 2013-2014 will have 201 school days, 180 of which are non-negotiable
teacher-student contact time.
A four-day
in-service training (INSET) break and parent-teacher conferences are stipulated
to inform parents of the student’s progress and ensure parental involvement in
school activities.
The order said
schools may observe national, local celebrations and holidays, provided that
the total number of school days is maintained and make-up classes are
conducted.
Meanwhile, private
schools may deviate from the school calendar given their class opening is not
earlier than June 3 and not later than the last day of August.
The order also sets
a five-day Maintenance Week named “Brigada Eskwela Week” from May 20 to 24 to
allow communities and private organizations cleanup the classrooms in
preparation for the opening of classes.
Summer classes, on
the other hand, will begin on April 8, 2014, a Tuesday, and will end on May 23,
2014, a Monday. (EPC/PIA-NCR)
