MAKATI CITY, 14 Jan. (PIA) -- The local government has extended the January 20 deadline for assessment and collection for business permits, real property taxes and other fees and charges until this February to compensate for the five-day holiday during the Papal visit to the country.
City Treasurer Nelia Barlis said the assessment of business permits without penalty has been extended until February 2, 2015, Monday, from 8am to 5pm only. Likewise, payments for business licenses will be accepted without penalty until February 13, 2015, Friday, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm only.
Barlis said for real property tax payment, taxpayers may avail themselves of the 10 percent discount up to February 13, 2015 from 8am to 5pm only.
Frontline City Hall offices involved in the said transactions will be closed from January 15 to 19, and will resume operations on January 20, Tuesday, starting from 8am to 10pm daily until Friday, January 23. During the weekend, January 24 to 25, they will be open from 8am to 8pm to serve clients.
On the last week of January (26 to 30), work hours will be from 8am to 10pm, while on the last weekend before the final deadline, January 31 and February 1, work hours will be from 8am to 8pm.
The city treasurer reminded business owners and taxpayers that assessments and payments made beyond the said deadlines will be imposed with the corresponding penalties.
Based on the Makati Revenue Code, annual realty tax payments made after March will be charged an eight percent penalty, while late quarterly payments will incur a penalty of two percent per month. RPT collection starts on the first working day of January until January 20. The succeeding quarterly payments shall be made until April 20 (second quarter), July 20 (third quarter, and October 20 (fourth quarter).
Meanwhile, applications for renewal of business permits filed after the given deadline are subject to a surcharge of 25 percent of total amount due, and additional two percent for every month of delay until the amount is fully settled.
For the past years, the city government has implemented measures to facilitate transactions with City Hall, especially during the renewal period. It has made available through the city’s website, www.makati.gov.ph, downloadable application forms for Business Permit, Individual Mayor’s Permit, and Locational Clearance that business owners can access through the internet, without needing to line up at the corresponding City Hall offices to get the forms.
The city government has also made available electronic realty tax payment centers in 31 barangays where residents can pay their taxes without leaving their barangays, in a process that takes a maximum of four minutes. Computers linked to the city’s Treasury Department in these satellite payment centers also enable them to generate official receipts for payments. (ICRD/RJB/JCP/PIA-NCR)
