DBP rolls out EMV ATM chip cards

MANILA, Nov. 17 (PIA) – Starting this month, the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) will roll out its EMV-enabled chip cards as mandated by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP). The EMV-enabled chip card is for strict compliance by January 2017.   EMV, which stands for "Europay, MasterCard, and Visa," is the new global standard for credit and debit card payments. It involves the use of cards equipped with a microprocessor chip that stores and protects cardholder information.  EMV ATM and debit cards ensure more secure transactions, protect customer information, reduce card fraud, and enable the interoperability of payment networks.

DBP’s EMV ATM Chip Card features an ethnic Filipino design inspired by the native “banig” (woven mat) rendered in the blue-red colours taken from the national flag.   Clients’ existing ATM cards will be replaced with the DBP EMV ATM Chip Card at their DBP branch of account on schedule.
