Red Cross all set for feast of the Black Nazarene

MANILA, 8 January (PIA) – The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) is all set for the feast of the Black Nazarene on Friday, January 9, 2015 in Manila.

PRC has deployed 300-strong volunteers and staff from the NCR Red Cross chapters along the routes of the Translacion from Luneta to Quiapo Church. Their target is to maintain zero death during the procession just like last year’s.

The Red Cross has also mobilized 19 rescue vehicles for immediate transport comprised of 14 ambulances, 3 plastic boats on the Pasig River, 1 fire truck and 1 rescue truck.

Likewise, 11 First Aid and Health stations will be put up along these routes: Quirino Grandstand, Luneta; Roxas Blvd. cor T.M. Kalaw; P. Burgos cor. Taft Avenue; Round Table, Manila; Jones Bridge cor. Roadside; Jones Bridge, Savory Restaurant; Plaza Sta.Cruz cor. Bustos; Legarda cor. Arlegui
9. Gonzalo Puyat cor. Quezon Blvd.; Bilibid Viejo St. infront of San Juan Sebastian Church; and Medical Station, Quiapo Church.

PRC Chairman Richard Gordon said aside from the 300 trained personnel at the first aid stations, about 10,000 volunteers under the Red Cross 143 program in Metro Manila along with its rescue vehicles and equipment are ready to respond in case of a mass casualty incident.

Likewise, PRC Secretary General Gwendolyn Pang called on the general public to keep safe and follow the reminders of the authorities while observing the festivities. (PRC/RJB/JEG/PIA-NCR)
