Public advised on New Traffic System in Intramuros

MANILA, 24 Feb. (PIA) - - The Intramuros Administration (IA) advised the public on a New Traffic System that will be implemented in Intramuros starting March 2, 2015.

Intramuros Administration planning officer Ms. Mayette Allaga said that the new scheme aims to give tourists more time and  space to explore the historic walled city.

Details of the new traffic scheme are as follows:
  • One-way on General Luna, southbound from Andres Soriano Ave. to Muralla St. Vehicles from northbound-P.Burgos Ave can turn right to Muralla St.
  • One-way on Arzobispo St., northbound only from Anda to Postigo;
  • Vehicles along Andres Soriano Ave. coming from Anda Circle can no longer proceed via Muralla St. but can only turn left to Soriano Ext. then right to Magallanes Drive;
  • Vehicles can no longer pass by the portion of Sto. Tomas St. in front of Manila Cathedral;
  • Vehicles can no longer pass by the portion of Sto. Tomas St. in front of Plaza Sto. Tomas along Solana and Cabildo Sts.
  • Bollard will be installed across Muralla St. beside the Bank of the Philippine Islands;
  • No parking around Plaza Roma, along Andres SorianoAve., Cabildo and General Luna Sts. And Muralla St. on the side of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila; and 
  • Vehicular traffic will be limited to two lanes along Anders Soriano Ave.

Alaga added that improvements are now being done inside Intramuros and the new traffic system  is only phase I of the on-going project.

The new scheme will be implemented in cooperation with Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Manila Traffic Parking Bureau (MTPB), Land Transportation Franchise Regulatory Board (LTFRB) and private sectors. (RJB/LFB/PIA-NCR)
