Write about Disaster Month and win P20,000, member agencies told

QUEZON CITY, 8 April (PIA) – To drumbeat disaster preparedness, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council is encouraging every personnel of member agencies to join its essay-writing contest on the proposed 2015 National Disaster Consciousness Month (NDCM) theme.

In his memo to member agencies, NDRRMC Executive Director Alexander Pama said the contest is open to all personnel of any member agency of the national and regional DRRMCs, whether permanent, casual, contractual, or under a contract of service.

“All entries must be related to disaster preparedness and must have a nationwide approach; must be original and unpublished; written in English and must be at least 500 to 2000 words,” Pama said.

Deadline of submission is on April 30 (Thursday) at 12 PM, just in time for the observance of National Disaster Consciousness Month in July.

Under Executive Order No.137, the month of July is declared as Disaster Month to increase awareness of every Filipino on natural and man-made disasters for a better appreciation of government’s disaster preparedness programs.

Prizes range from P20,000 for 1st prize, P15,000 for 2nd prize, and P10,000 for 3rd; plus, three consolation winners receiving P5,000 each, he added.

Pama said entries will be judged on Relevance (45%), Originality (25%), Structure (15%), and Style (15%).

He said to submit entries enclosed in a short brown envelope to the Policy Development and Planning Services (PDPS), Office of Civil Defense – Central Office, Camp Emilio Aguinaldo, Quezon City. Personally or hand-carried or via post/courier must have the following details: complete name, office/service/division address, contact number, and email address.
