Quezon City to host National HIV Testing Week

QUEZON CITY, 7 May (PIA)--The Quezon City government will host the National HIV Testing Week, highlighted by a motorcade on May 11 and the annual “AIDS Candlelight Ceremony” on May 15, which aims to promote HIV/ AIDS testing to the public.

The five-day event will be conducted in collaboration with the Department of Health (DOH) and the Philippine National AIDS Council.

Seventeen(17) local government units of the National Capital Region, including the 142 barangays of Quezon City and various offices of the city government, nongovernment organizations and HIV/AIDS support groups are expected to participate in the event.

On May 11, the Department of Health and the Quezon City Health Department will lead participants in a motorcade along Visayas and Congressional Avenues, which will end at the Liwasang Aurora in the Quezon Memorial Circle.

A program will be held for the launching of the HIV mobile van in Quezon City which will include free HIV counselling and testing.

ABS-CBN star Robi Domingo and actress Rufa Mae Quinto will host the program, which will feature entertainment numbers by guest performers and a fashion show. The popular rock band, Aegis, was also invited to perform during the program.

DOH Undersecretary Vicente Belizario, Mayor Herbert M.Bautista, and leaders from other LGUs and various organizations are expected to attend the event. 

As a culminating event to the week-long activity, the Philippine National AIDS Council, in collaboration with Pinoy Plus Association,Inc. will spearhead the “2015 AIDS Candlelight Memorial Observance” on May 15,which will be held at Liwasang Aurora, at the Quezon Memorial Circle.
