U.S. Embassy to observe Memorial Day; embassy, affiliated offices closed on Monday

MANILA, 24 May (PIA) – The U.S. Embassy Manila and affiliated offices will be closed tomorrow, Monday, May 25, 2015, in observance of U.S. Memorial Day, a U.S. federal holiday.

According to the U.S. Embassy, Memorial Day is observed on the last Monday of May and honors the men and women who lost their lives while serving in the U.S. military. 

This holiday was originally known as Decoration Day. It originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971.

Meanwhile, the embassy and affiliated offices will resume regular services Tuesday, May 26, 2015. (US Embassy Manila/RJB/JEG/PIA-NCR)
