Applications for YSEALI Generation Startup Weekend until July 3

MANILA, June 29 (PIA) – The United States Embassy Manila announced that applications for the 2015 Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) Generation Startup Weekend in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on August 4-6, 2015 are now being accepted.

Hosted by Techstars South East Asia in partnership with the United States Department of State, the YSEALI Generation Startup Weekend will take place during the ASEAN Regional Forum which is being held in Malaysia the same week.

According to the US Embassy, interested applicants should submit a one-minute video pitch describing their idea for helping South East Asia grow in the areas of economic development, civic engagement, environment and education.

A total of 110 aspiring entrepreneurs from South East Asia, aged 18 to 30, will be selected to take part in the event. Participants will receive entrepreneurship training and build online apps. The team that creates the best app will win a free trip to the United States to meet entrepreneurs, business and technology incubators, and key companies.  Second and third place winners will receive seed money.

The embassy added that all teams will receive long-term mentoring and coaching.  Training, transportation, food, and lodging are provided at no charge to selected participants.

Launched in 2013, YSEALI is U.S. President Barack Obama’s signature program to strengthen leadership development and networking in Southeast Asia.
