PASAY CITY, May 30 (PIA)--President Benigno S. Aquino III on Friday lauded the Department of Education (DepEd) and its partners for the continued implementation of the K to 12 Program despite some critics question its legality and the government’s capability to implement it.
In his speech before teachers and education officials during the K to 12 summit, Aquino defended the readiness of the government to implement the K to 12 despite negative criticism thrown by various groups.
“Kayang-kaya nating isulong ang K to 12,” the President said adding that the government has allocated enough funds to push for the much-needed education reform in the country.
Aquino also said that the government has been preparing for the K to 12 program for years now.
"Sa mga nagsasabing hindi tayo handa: Handa tayo. Dumaan ito sa ilang taong pagpaplano at consultation," the President said
The President stressed that the additional two years to basic education will not be a burden to teachers, parents and students.
"Imbes na isiping pabigat, isipin itong pagkakataon upang higit na mapabuti ang sarili," he said.
The summit, dubbed, “Sa K to 12, Kayang-kaya, Sama-sama! A celebration of K to 12 Milestones,” was held at the Plenary Hall of the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City.
It was conducted in line with the second year anniversary of Republic Act 10533 or the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013 also known as the “K to 12 Law” which was signed by Aquino in May 2013.
Education Secretary Armin Luistro on Friday assured that there is no stopping the implementation of the K to 12 Program, particularly Senior High School (SHS) Program which will be implemented nationwide starting School Year (SY) 2016-2017.
The summit was attended by teachers, school heads, students, parents, local government units (LGUs), and representatives from the private sector and other stakeholders. (PIA-NCR/RJB/SDL)
