MANILA, 16 June (PIA) – The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) readies its logistics and manpower for disasters.
This, after the nation prepares for a major tremor that may affect Metro Manila, according to experts.
“In NCR alone, we have 45 ambulances that could be deployed in various areas where ambulance service will be needed such as in transporting the injured and casualties,” said PRC Chairman Richard J. Gordon.
PRC has also 21 more ambulances from Northern and Central Luzon, plus 12 from Southern Luzon that could also immediately come to the aid of patients. Likewise, three more ambulances from Bicol, 18 from the Visayas, and 20 from Mindanao can all be deployed in Metro Manila should the need arises.
Gordon also said that providing trained and qualified emergency response personnel and first aiders is also a priority of the Red Cross.
“Every week we train 25 first aiders that can be deployed immediately in case of mass casualty incidents,” said Gordon. As of the first week of June, there are now a total of 29,406 first aiders nationwide, he added.
Another critical service that the PRC provides is blood. The PRC Blood Center has given the assurance that there is enough blood supply in case of a mass casualty incident.
From January to June 5, 2015, the PRC Blood Center has served a total of 55,681 patients, with a total of 72,490 units of blood. There were a total of 50,458 pay patients served, and 5,249 indigent patients provided with blood. (PRC/RJB/JEG/PIA-NCR)
