National Museum forum to highlight Tabon Caves of Palawan

MANILA, 18 August (PIA) – The National Museum of the Philippines will hold a free forum to highlight the recent work on the Tabon Caves in Palawan.

According to the National Museum (NM), the Prehistory of Southeast Asia (PREHSEA) Project is a joint venture of the National Museum, the Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle in Paris and Sangiran Museum in Jawa Tengah Indonesia.

One of its areas of study is the Tabon Cave Complex. Guest research scientists will reveal initial findings and new data that would change our perception of the way early humans in the Southern Palawan area lived.

Guest research scientists include Hermine Xhauflair, PhD who will talk about plant use in the subsistence strategies of pre-historic hunter-gatherers in Palawan Island through Lithics analysis.

Julien Corny, PhD will give updates on the analysis of human remains from Tabon Cave, while Andri Purnomo, PhD will focus on the heritage conservation in Sangiran and its possible application to the caves.

The forum will be held on Wednesday, August 19 at 2:00 PM at the NM Auditorium, Museum of Fine Arts, Old Legislative Building in Manila.
