DOLE urges LGUs to institutionalize PESO

PASAY CITY, Oct. 28 (PIA)--The Department of Labor & Employment (DOLE) urges local chief executives to institutionalize their Public Employment Service Offices (PESO) as it transform into a multi-dimensional front-line institution providing people not only with employment facilitation services.

During the 15th National PESO Congress held October 26-28 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City, Labor & Employment Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said PESO are also frontline actors in livelihood and manpower development; training; skills registry updating and maintenance; and labor market information dissemination.

Citing a report from the Bureau of Local Employment (BLE), Baldoz said there is a steady growth in the number of institutionalized PESOs under the Aquino administration.

“In 2010, there were only 65 institutionalized PESOs; 73 in 2011; and 163 in 2012. Then in 2013, the number rose up to 297 and currently there are already 390 institutionalized PESOs,” the labor chief said.

Baldoz, stressing the importance of institutionalizing the PESOs said: “We recognize the PESOs as valuable allies and partners in delivering employment facilitation services. The more institutionalized PESOs we have, the better will be the employment facilitation services capability of the government.”

“I have an abiding faith and strong belief in the Public Employment Service Office as a DOLE ally and partner in promoting productive and decent work for all,” Baldoz added. (PIA-NCR/RJB/SDL)
