MANILA, (PIA) — The Philippine government has launched a new initiative to combat scams and deceptive content, introducing Hotline 1326 as the official anti-scam reporting channel.
The move is part of a broader strategy to enhance media literacy and protect citizens from fraudulent activities as the country prepares for the upcoming elections.
The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) and the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) announced their collaboration with Scam Watch Pilipinas to bolster public awareness and education around scams.
Victims of scams can report incidents using the eGov app, which provides a platform for users to submit suspicious links for investigation.
CICC Undersecretary Alex Ramos reported that the agency has already received at least 200 reports of deepfake scams.
Ramos noted the urgency of swift detection, as many flagged links often disappear rapidly from social media platforms, making timely intervention crucial.
“This initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to addressing the rising incidents of false information,” Ramos said. “By empowering the public with resources to report suspicious activities, we aim to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.”
As election season nears, the government is focused on enhancing public vigilance against misinformation and promoting a more informed electorate. (JCO/PIA-NCR)
