QUEZON CITY, 23 October (PIA) - The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the Metro Manila Council (MMC) agreed to adopt some local government units (LGUs) that were hit by the recent typhoon Lando.
MMDA Officer-in-Charge Emerson Carlos approved the resolution presented to the mayors of Metro Manila for the adoption of affected LGUs.
Carlos said that just like what the MMC did in the aftermath of super typhoon Yolanda in the Visayas Region, a Metro Manila mayor will select an LGU affected by the calamity to be assisted in accordance to his capacity.
He said the mayor can adopt one or more typhoon-hit LGU and help them in their recovery efforts within a year.
According to MMDA, the fund to be utilized for the adopt-an-LGU scheme will be sourced from the respective metro mayors’ disaster risk reduction management funds.
Muntinlupa City will be adopting the municipalities of Jaen and Lupao in Nueva Ecija. For Valenzuela City, the municipality of San Antonio, Nueva Ecija will be adopted.
Las Piñas City to adopt the municipality of Calumpit in Bulacan, while Quezon City will be adopting the municipalities of San Miguel in Bulacan, Bambang in Nueva Vizcaya, and Baler in Aurora.
Likewise, San Juan will be adopting the municipality of Caba in La Union and the city of Manila to adopt Cabanatuan City in Nueva Ecija.
Other Metro Manila LGUs will still have to choose a municipality or city to be adopted. (MMDA/RJB/JEG/PIA-NCR)
