QUEZON CITY, (PIA) –  The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation Regional Office National Capital Region (PRO NCR) has tapped into the expertise of the Strategic Engagement for Enabling Development, Inc. (SEED) to develop localized communication strategies in promoting the Z Benefit Package.

The Z Benefit Package is one of the case rate packages of PhilHealth which covers “Case Type Z” or catastrophic illnesses such as cancer and chronic kidney and cardiovascular diseases that require high-cost medical procedures and life-saving treatments.

SEED, on the other hand, is a consulting firm that provides technical assistance for sectors in need of high-impact research and development work for the strengthening of health systems, among others.

The initiative to partner with SEED is driven by the goal of PhilHealth to help Filipinos make an informed healthcare decision-making process, particularly those eligible to avail of the Z Benefit Package.

“Through SEED’s expertise by providing their technical assistance in the crafting of recommendations for policy enhancements to increase engagement and contracting of Health Facilities in PRO-NCR, more Filipinos will have access to the financial support they need for high-cost medical treatments,” PRO Vice President for NCR and Rizal Dr. Bernadette C. Lico stressed.

PhilHealth started the implementation of the enhancements in most of its case rate packages earlier this year, including the Z Benefit Package for Breast cancer which increased from P100,000 to P1.4 million.

Aside from PhilHealth, SEED has also extended technical assistance to the Department of Health (DOH) in developing the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of the Universal Health Care (UHC) Act in 2019.

This collaborative undertaking will not only facilitate the advancement of UHC but also the measures of the state insurer that are geared towards easing the financial burden of Filipinos due to the high cost of healthcare. (JMP/PhilHealth NCR)
