QUEZON CITY, Oct. 19 (PIA) – The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) recently issued an advisory stating that prescription of psychopharmacologic, or simply referred to as psychiatric drugs, does not require S2 license of the prescribing medical practitioner.
“This is to inform the general public that psychopharmacologic drugs such as Flouxetine, Sertraline, Chlorpromazine, Haloperidol, Olanzapine, Risepridone, Carbamazepine, Valproate, Biperiden and Diphenhydramine are not classified as dangerous drugs hence, prescriptions of these drugs can be done without the need of an S2 license of the prescribing medical practitioner,” PDEA chief Arturo G. Cacdac, Jr. said.
The advisory came after PDEA chief received report from PDEA Compliance Service Director Helen Maita Reyes, saying that some medical doctors in the rural health units have experienced that their prescriptions of some psychiatric drugs were not dispensed by local and community pharmacists due to non-indication of their S2 license in the prescription.
PDEA stated that only medical practitioners, to include attending physicians, dentists and veterinarians with legitimate S2 License issued by PDEA, through its Compliance Service, are authorized to prescribe to patients any dangerous drugs preparations, for legitimate medical purposes.
