MAKATI CITY, 11 March (PIA) -- Mayor Kid Peña has ordered the Makati Parking Authority (MAPA) to conduct further investigation on the brawling incident between their traffic enforcer and a pedestrian yesterday afternoon at the corner of Geronimo and H.V. Dela Costa Streets.
Peña said that in serving the public, we are expected to exercise maximum tolerance at all times, adding that under his administration no one is above the law and that anyone who will be found guilty of any misdemeanour should be ready to face the consequences of his action.
The MAPA is a private deputized body tasked to administer, manage and implement traffic policies, rules and regulations at the Makati Central Business District.
“As the city’s local chief executive, any form of hooliganism has no place under my watch. While we may be at the disadvantaged point or may have pushed to the limits, resorting to violence should still be our last resort in conflict resolution,” Peña said.
Meanwhile, MAPA general manager Deogracias San Miguel said that although the case has already been resolved amicably and the involved traffic enforcer has already been placed under preventive suspension despite that no charges have been filed against him by the concerned pedestrian, further investigation on the case will still be conducted to get to the bottom of it.
Peña reiterated that under the “New Makati” his administration, guided by principles on good and highly responsive governance, genuine transparency and accountability, they practice an ‘open door’ policy where everyone is welcome to see him at his office for any concerns or suggestions.
“I am willing to listen. I assure everyone, residents and transients alike, as well as other Makati stakeholders, that your opinions and sides of the story are always heard and considered in our decision-making process,” Peña said.
The mayor said that his administration is continuously working very hard to keep the city a peaceful, friendly and a secure destination to work, shop and relax, and that incident like this has no place in the country’s financial district. (ICRD/RJB/JCP/PIA-NCR)
