MAKATI CITY, 6 April (PIA) -- Sixty-seven traffic enforcers and personnel of the Public Safety Department (PSD) have received permanent positions after being casual employees for 20 or more years, a statement from the www.makati.gov said.
It said Makati Mayor Romulo “Kid” Peña led the recent oath-taking ceremony for the newly hired employees and that the city’s Human Resource Development Office and the Civil Service Commission approved their recommendation for regularization and promotion earlier.
For his part, Arch. Elmer Cabrera, PSD officer-in-charge, said that those who were given regular positions have been occupying their positions as either traffic aide 1 or 2 on a casual status for the last 20 to 29 years. Their regularization and promotion will retroactively take effect on February 1, 2016.
“After 28 years in service as traffic aide 1, starting her career with PSD on November 17, 1987, Ms. Corazon Cortez, as traffic aide II, will now be receiving P12,018.82, or an increase of P1,618.82 from her previous P10,400 monthly salary,” Cabrera said.
The public safety chief also gave his assurance of a more efficient 24/7 delivery of public services for the city’s motorists and commuters following the employment upgrade.
Pena, meanwhile announced that all casual and contractual employees have now been entitled to a bonus, which is equivalent to their 10-day salary. He said this is very similar to the monetization of leave credit benefit being given to regular employees of the city.
He said this is the first time in the history of Makati that a bonus such as this is given to non-permanent workers of the city.
He also urged city employees to give their suggestions and recommendations on what other benefits they can give to them, without violating any rules and regulations of the Commission on Audit and the Civil Service Commission. (ICRD/RJB/JCP/PIA-NCR)
