QUEZON CITY, 5 April (PIA) -- President Benigno S. Aquino III led the distribution of 135 fire trucks and 144 police patrol jeeps on Monday morning as part of government’s continuing commitment to modernize the country’s protection and security services.
In a simple turnover ceremony of actual keys held at the Quezon Memorial Circle, the President initially inspected the brand new service vehicles before awarding them to city and municipal mayors in attendance.
During this time, Interior and Local Government Secretary Mel Senen Sarmiento, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief P/DG Ricardo Marquez, and Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) OIC F/CSupt Rodrigo Abrazaldo conducted a walking briefing for the President.
After PNoy’s inspection, the public was treated to a field demonstration of the fire trucks by showcasing their modernized capabilities.
(Through the DILG, we happily roll out the 135 fire trucks and 144 patrol jeeps to the different cities and municipalities throughout the country.)
(From July 2010 to December 2015, we have procured a total of 561 fire trucks costing P4.25 billion. This resulted to every city in the Philippines having at least one fire truck.)
(Out of the 1,489 municipalities in the country, 1,194 will be receiving a new fire truck after today’s event.)
“These additional fire trucks will aid in filling up of shortages on the BFP’s assets and intensify fire suppression capability of the agency. Similarly, these equipment will also lift the morale of our firefighters because the dilapidated fire trucks will be replaced by the new ones,” the President said.
The 144 new patrol jeeps, on the other hand, is part of the 186 units of 4×2 Mahindra Enforcer patrol jeeps recently procured sourced out from the PNP capability enhancement program (CEP) fund CYs 2011-2013.
On top of the 144 units that were distributed by President Aquino, 27 units were already turned over to the municipal, city, and regional PNP units, which were not covered in the initial procurement of 1,470 units of patrol jeeps.
(From May 2015 up to March 2016, we were able to deliver a total of 1,490 patrol jeeps, this includes all of the municipal police stations in the entire country, including the municipality of General Trias, that is now a city.)
(After we have turned over the additional 144 patrol jeeps this morning to all the cities in the entire country, for the first time, all our police stations in every city and municipality in the Philippines will have at least one patrol jeep.)
