Quezon City, 6 April (PIA) --- Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission (PRRC) Environment Consultant Jürgen Saeger, Phd proposed a project entitled "Cleanup of Pasig River and of coastal waters of Manila Bay" at the PRRC Conference Hall last April 5, 2016.
Present in the project proposal were Executive Director Ramil R. Tan, Deputy Executive Director for Operations Ariel P. Maralit, Environmental Management Division Head Merliza S. Bonga and Management Information Systems Division Head Bryan August L. Mallillin - who all approved of the proposal.
The project aims to apply bioremediation technology to thoroughly rehabilitate and clean up the two interconnected and interacting bodies of water- the Pasig River and the Manila Bay.
Bioremediation is a waste management or treatment that involves the use of organisms to remove or neutralize pollutants from a contaminated site.
Saeger submitted four phases in the project, which includes Laguna de Bay, rivers, creeks, and Manila Bay.
The proposed cost is approximately USD 20 Million excluding operational cost for personnel, fuel for generators and electricity.(PRRC/MAPA/RJB/PIA-NCR)
