QUEZON CITY, 07 April (PIA)— People’s Television Network, Inc. (PTV) in coordination with the Department of Education, Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), the Philippine Information Agency (PIA), the Philippine Broadcasting Service (PBS), and the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) conducted on Thursday (April 7) the 7th ASEAN Quiz National Competition.
Eighteen (18) of the brightest high school students from across the country competed for top spots in a bid to represent the Philippines at the bigger competition stage in Lao PDR, this year’s host of the 7th ASEAN Quiz Regional Competition.
At stake in this year’s national tilt are cash prizes and scholarship grants for the winning students, trophies of honor for their schools, and recognition plaques for the winners’ coaches.
The Philippines is a consistent winner in the biennial event, copping 1st place in the individual delegates category in both 2002 (Thailand) and in 2004 (Brunei Darussalam), and finished 2nd in 2006 (Malaysia). Its brilliance was unmatched in the country competition, winning the gold consecutively in 2009 (Philippines) and in 2012 (Cambodia), and captured the silver in 2014 (Viet Nam).
The ASEAN Quiz is a project of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Committee on Culture and Information (COCI), which aims to foster the spirit of healthy competition and friendships among ASEAN youth.
The 7th ASEAN Quiz National Competition competition was held at the St. Mary’s College Auditorium in Quezon City.
