QUEZON CITY, March 27 (PIA) --- The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), in partnership with the SM Cinema, launched last Friday the Cine Lokal - a three year partnership to support the Philippine film industry which includes the independent film producers.
The launching was held at Cerchio Restaurant, Tomas Morato in Quezon City. It was led by FDCP Chairperson and CEO Liza Diño and SM Lifestyle Entertainment, Inc. (SMLEI) President Edgar Tejerero.
Cine Lokal is a new cinema line that will house independent films, foreign and local award-winning films, and FDCP programs in eight (8) box office cinemas of SM namely SM Megamall, SM North EDSA, SM Fairview, SM Iloilo, SM Southmall, SM Cebu, SM Bacoor, and SM Mall of Asia.
For this lenten season (April), feature films that tackle religion and priesthood will be shown in Cine Lokal such as Tom McCarthy's Spotlight, Ishmael Bernal's Himala, Mel Chionglo's Iadya Mo Kami, Ruben Soriquez' Of Sinners and Saints, and Erik Matti's Seklusyon among others.
"Cine Lokal's goal is two-fold: to provide independent filmmakers with a commercial venue for their films, thereby strengthening their experience and training on film marketing and distribution, and to create a culture of support and viewership among Filipinos nationwide. Independent films mirror our society's milieu in the most meaningful and affective of ways and we are grateful to SM Cinema for this great opportunity for us to bring more choices of these films closer to our people," FDCP Chairperson and CEO Liza Diño stated.
Starting April 19, the mentioned cinemas will be screening some featured films chosen by FDCP. The films will be given a one-week guaranteed screening, with an introductory ticket price of Php 120.00 per person per movie. Following the SM guidelines, no R18 films will be shown in Cine Lokal.
According to Chairperson Diño, 60% of the ticket share will go to the producer (50%) and FDCP (10%) while, the 40% will go to SM Cinema.
Moreover, FDCP also launched its indie channel on www.blink-now.com and the Blink App, in partnership with the Video-on-demand service Blink. Films awarded by FDCP will also be made available online. (FDCP/RJB/MAPA/JRGR/PIA-NCR)
