980 TODA members to benefit from SSS AlkanSSSya Program

PARAÑAQUE CITY, Sept. 26 — About 980 members of ten Tricycle Operators and Drivers Associations (TODA) will become members of the Social Security System (SSS) after being selected by the local government as AlkanSSSya Program beneficiaries.
SSS President and Chief Executive Officer Emmanuel F. Dooc led the second grand launching of SSS AlkanSSSya Program on September 25, to officially turn over the AlkanSSSya units to target beneficiaries of the Parañaque City government.
“We’re glad that the City Government of Parañaque once again expressed their interest of purchasing additional units for their growing number of informal sector groups. In fact, Mayor Edwin L. Olivarez pledged to shoulder the cost of AlkanSSSya units to ensure that our tricycle drivers and operators will continue to pay their contributions regularly,” Dooc said.
Among the participating informal sector groups (ISGs) are Barangay Moonwalk TODA (BARMOTODA), BF Homes TODA (BFTODA), Edison Parañaque TODA (EPTODA), San Agustin Village Transport Service Association Inc. (SAVTSAI), Sitio Santo Niño TODA (SSNOTDA), Fourth Estate TODA (FETODA), Merville Park TODA (MPTODA), Samahang Barangay Don Bosco TODA , Inc (SBDBTODI), Perlas ng Parañaque Tambo TODA (PPTTODA) and La Huerta Don Galo TODA (LAHDTODA).
Since 2013, the Paranaque City government has donated 13 AlkanSSSya Units, benefiting nearly 400 members. As of August 2017, the SSS Parañaque and Parañaque-Tambo branches have collected P7.04 million in members’ contributions from 17 participating ISGs such as TODA, pedicab and tricycle associations.
“We would like to commend the officials of Parañaque City for taking the initiative of securing the welfare of the most vulnerable sector of our society. At this point, I encourage other LGUs to share the same advocacy of providing meaningful social security protection to every working Filipinos. For newly-registered members, kindly fulfill your obligations as SSS members so that you can fully maximize the benefits and privileges in times of contingencies,” Dooc concluded.
The SSS AlkanSSSya Program is a micro-savings scheme launched in 2012 that enables ISG members to save a part of their daily income for as low as P11 a day in personalized metal compartments for their monthly SSS contributions. As of first semester of 2017, the program has 103,868 member-beneficiaries from 1,387 participating ISGs with an equivalent members’ contributions amounting to P523 million. (SSS)
