Manila, April 16 (PIA) -- The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) recognized the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) as one of its vital partners during its 71st Founding Anniversary recently held at the Manila Hotel.
PIA, along with government-run Radyo Pilipinas, PTV4 and other media entities, were honored with the ‘humanitarian media award’ for its relentless support in informing the public on PRC’s programs, projects, efforts and needs for the public especially during disasters and calamities.
Director Olive Tiu, representing Director General Harold E. Clavite, received the award for PIA.
According to PRC Chairman, Senator Richard Gordon, PIA, along with other government and private media, play an important role in disseminating vital information in time of disasters and also in gathering of support for victims who are in need of help.
Gordon added, it is just fitting to recognize the significance and heart for humanity of all organizations and individuals, who have helped and contributed in assisting those who are in need during calamities, particularly efforts that save lives.
This year’s anniversary coincided with the 32nd Biennial National Convention (BNC), a gathering of staff and volunteers from PRC’s chapters nationwide.
Ernesto Isla, member of the Board of Governors and Committee Chairman of the 32nd BNC, said the event helped the organization set its vision to expand, innovate and enhance its capacities.
“It was a chance for us to convene and to discuss our strategic goals in the next year, but more importantly, it was a chance for us to refuel the fire to be a pillar of hope,” Isla said.
With the theme “Philippine Red Cross Volunteers: The Lifeline of the People,” the 3-day event (April 12-14) featured a public viewing of the M/V PRC Amazing Grace and other rescue equipment, as well as a photo exhibit that showcases PRC’s impact to the people.
A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was also signed by PRC and Department of Health (DOH) to strengthen its cooperation in providing health responses, such as provision of emergency hospitals, potable water, and welfare desks in times of mass casualty incidents, emergencies, and disasters.
