MANILA, April 6 (PIA) -- A new report released by a collaborative online database has ranked two highly urbanized cities in Metro Manila as among the top 10 safest cities in Southeast Asia.
Numbeo, a crowd-sourced global database of reported perceived crime rates among a host of other statistical data, has included Valenzuela City and Makati City in the list of those with the lowest crime and highest safety indexes. These are the top 10 safest cities, according to Numbeo:

Numbeo said the data is based on surveys from visitors to their website (www.numbeo.com). Questions for these surveys are similar to many similar scientific and government surveys, it said.
"The crime index is an estimation of overall level of crime in a given city or country. Safety index on the other hand, is quite opposite of crime index. If the city has a high safety index, it is considered very safe,” it explained.
“To generate a current index (which is always updated) we use data up to 36 months old. We include only cities for which there are at least a certain number of contributors. Our semiannual index is remade twice per year by pushing current index into this historical view,” Numbeo said, adding that they also filter surveys to eliminate potential spam, like people entering a large amount of data, which are differentiating from the median value.
