MANILA, May 24 (PIA) -- The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost), in coordination with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), showcased special stamps from notable philatelic collectors in a philatelic exhibition.
The activity is in line with the celebration of the National Heritage Month this May.
Dr. Jaime C. Laya, a business leader and known cultural heritage proponent, was the guest of honor and speaker during the formal opening of the exhibit located at the historic Manila Central Post Office building in Liwasang Bonifacio.
The exhibit showcases 40 frames with a total of 620 pages featuring Philippine stamps depicting Filipino cultures, traditions and great Filipinos. The exhibit will be open to the public from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and will run until May 28, 2018.
“We support the effort of the NCCA to preserve and protect these cultural heritage which has been featured and officially recorded in these miniature pieces of art called “stamps” for the enjoyment of our future generations,” Postmaster General Joel Otarra said.
Otarra said they also plan to open a Postal Museum at the lobby of the historic Manila Central Post Office building this year to add attraction to both local and foreign tourists. It will also serve as an academic facility for students and stamp collectors to learn and appreciate Filipino cultures and history.
“The walls of Intramuros and the magnificent edifice of the post office building at the heart of Manila remind us to love our past and treasure these places in the future,” Otarra added.
PHLPost has also issued stamps to showcase the beauty and distinctive architecture of centuries-old Spanish colonial churches in the country. (JEG/PIA-NCR with reports from PHLPost)
