TAGUIG CITY, June 4 (PIA) – The Department of Energy (DOE) has started rolling out electric tricycles (E-Trikes) in the National Capital Region (NCR).
Energy Secreyary Alfonso Cusi signed a Memorandum of Agreement with city mayors Imelda Aguilar of Las Piñas, Muntinlupa’s Jaime Fresnedi, Miguel “Ike” Ponce III of Pateros, and Valenzuela Mayor Rexlon T. Gatchalian at the DOE Headquarters on Friday, 1 June 2018.
The energy chief expressed hopes that the project will contribute to the progress of the recipients particularly among tricycle drivers considering the current oil price hike.
Cusi, however, explained that the surge in oil price is due to the global market condition.
“The DoE E-Trike is a project that encourages the transition from oil to cleaner sources of energy,” Cusi said. “The 900 units to be given to the four cities will benefit many communities, in terms of livelihood and the services that it can provide to the people.”
The DoE will provide Las Piñas 100 e-trike units, Muntinlupa-50 units, Pateros-400 units, and Valenzuela-250 units.
Under the MoA, the LGUs must comply with documentary requirements, among other prerequisites, such as their proposal for the use of the e-trikes in their LGUs.
Meanwhile, the Metro Manila local chief executives expressed their gratitude to the DoE for the opportunity to be among the first recipients of the project. They also assured DOE that they will be responsible partners especially in providing their constituents a safe and convenient ride.
According to DOE, more e-trikes will soon roll out in Metro Manila, Regions 4A (CALABARZON), 4B (MIMAROPA), and in other parts of the country.
In line with the E-Power Mo campaign, the DoE promotes the modernization of the transport sector by providing an efficient, safe, ergonomic, and environment-friendly alternative mode of transport for local and foreign tourists via the Market Transformation through the Introduction of Energy Efficient Vehicles (E-trike) Project.
The e-trikes come with LTO registration, comprehensive insurance, training for drivers, user’s manual, basic tools, and safety goggles.
Its benefits include zero tailpipe emission, less noise and vibration, safety design, easy driving, and lower maintenance cost.
Likewise, the e-trike features pedestrian accessibility, riding comfort, safety, highly efficient lithium-ion battery, a battery management system that monitors the voltage and temperature of the battery cells, and an on-board charger. (LFB/JEG/PIA-NCR)
