Valenzuela bags NCR literacy search

QUEZON CITY, June 6 (PIA) – The Valenzuela City Government on Monday bagged this year’s Regional Literacy Search for Outstanding Local Government Units in Metro Manila for its best practices and programs in literacy.
Valenzuela topped Pasay City in the Highly Urbanized City Category and will represent the National Capital Region (NCR) in the upcoming 2018 National Literacy Awards in September.
Mayor Rex Gatchalian thanked all stakeholders who helped the city achieve its learning performance award.
“Ito ay para sa lahat ng reading camp teachers, teaching aides, nanay, teachers, SGC [school governing councils], PTA [parent-teacher associations], at higit sa lahat mga students,”  (This is for all the reading camp teachers, teaching aides, mothers, teachers, SGC, PTA, and most especially, the students.) Gatchalian said in his tweet immediately after receiving word from the Department of Education-NCR Officer in-charge Wilfredo Cabral.
Among Valenzuela’s notable practices include its Education 360 Investment Program, a holistic, systemic, comprehensive, and student-centered platform that revolutionizes its public education system.
Valenzuela does not merely focus on “hardware” or infrastructure development, but on all the other aspects that affect access of children to education and their learning performance. Among its components are: curriculum build-up, parenting camp, teaching camp, educational supplies, and massive infrastructure spending.
In addition, the local government regularly conducts its “K to 6 In-school Feeding Program” to nurture the health of incoming elementary students; and summer reading camps in partnership with the Division of City Schools Valenzuela and Synergeia Foundation. (PIA-NCR)
