QUEZON CITY, May 14 (PIA) – Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Oscar Albayalde commended members of the police who maintained peace and order during the conduct of ational and local elections on Monday, May 13, 2019.
In a media briefing Tuesday, Albayalde thanked the police force, together with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) for the conduct of a peaceful, safe and secured midterm polls.
The PNP chief also expressed his gratitude to President Rodrigo Roa Duterte for his utmost support to the police. He also acknowledged the local government units, members of the community, media, and other stakeholders for their vigilance and support and cooperation extended to the PNP.
In an election-related updates, Albayalde noted 60 percent decrease in the number of election related cases, with 43 incidents and with 73 victims compared to the 106 incidents with 192 victims recorded during the 2016 polls.
On vote buying, the PNP chief said they have recorded a total of 225 incidents which led to the arrest of 441 violators and rescue of eight (8) minors. On the Election Day, the PNP has recorded some 41 incidents ranging from commotion, mauling, attempted murder, and shooting incidents. However, he said that investigations are still ongoing to verify if said incidents are election-related.
Albayalde also commended some 517 police personnel who served as members of election board in the absence of teachers in some areas. (PIA InfoComm/PNP)
