QUEZON CITY, Feb. 26 (PIA) -- It has been more than three decades since Filipinos gathered in a peaceful protest along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue to protect, defend, and preserve its freedom.
With the theme “EDSA: Kapayapaan ng Bayan, Simbulo ng Kapayapaang Ipinaglaban", the 34th Anniversary of the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution was a simpler, but meaningful celebration.
Presidential Adviser for Entrepreneurship and EDSA People Power Commission (EPPC) Vice-Chair Joey Concepcion led the flag-raising ceremony assisted by National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) Chairperson Rene Escalante, Spirit of EDSA Foundation. Inc, Commissioner Chris Carrion, and Quezon City Rep. Ricardo Belmonte Jr. at the EDSA People Power Monument in Quezon City on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2020.
Concepcion and Carrion offered flowers at the historical monument created by Eduardo Castrillo.
In his official message, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte urged the public to set aside political differences to ensure that the legacy of EDSA, that showed the courage, strength, and determination of Filipinos, will remain relevant in the years ahead.
Part of the program was the pledge of allegiance done by NHCP Historian Eufemio Agbayani III, and the raising of the seventeen (17) City Colors including that of the EDSA People Power Commission’s.
EDSA People Power Revolution will always be remembered for the values that it taught, not just the Filipinos, but also the world, and that is peace and unity. (PIA-NCR/ATVA)
