QUEZON CITY, March 9 (PIA) -- Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar on Monday said the PCOO will continue to be the lead communications arm of government in addressing the public health emergency brought by the localized transmission of COVID-19 in the country.
"Even before the first reported case of local transmission, the different offices under or attached to PCOO, in coordination with key departments, agencies under the inter-agency task force on Emerging Infectious Diseases, have been working round the clock 24/7," Andanar said, citing #LagingHanda as the whole-of-government's dedicated platform that send out regular updates through all media such as TV, radio, print, digital, and on-ground.
"Further, upon the instruction of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, regular updates, news, and public service announcements in relation to the coronavirus have been aired on government broadcast stations, print and online platforms," he added.
From the letter weeks of January to February 29, 2020, the government media has made approximately 70 informational videos, more that five radio plugs, at least 1,250 social cards and around 20 infographics on the COVID-19.
In addition, the government media produced more than 750 online news articles, more than 400 broadcast news items for both TV and radio, close to 30 news articles, which saw print, more that 500 situational reports, more than 450 text blasts, and at least 280 news tweets.
To promote on-ground engagement about the coronavirus, more than 350 flyers in English and 350 flyers in Filipino were produced, which complemented more that 70 live radio interviews.
"Our on-ground events included five Laging Handa Press Briefings here with the Malacañang Press Corps, more that 25 regional and provincial press briefing, close to 15 TV and radio guestings and Kapihans," he said.
"In addition, PCOO conducted 34 livestream media coverages and two exclusive coverages, including the repatriation of Filipinos from Wuhan and MV Diamond Princess. These are among others we have done not including our action items for the month of March," Andanar added.
"Rest assured that we will give a strong and united message, in coordination with IATF members and ensure to double if not multiply our interventions for the needed information of the public. The government, however, assures our people that concerned agencies are taking the necessary actions to quell the spread of COVID-19," he emphasized. (PIA NCR)
