QUEZON CITY, June 19 (PIA) -- The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), together with representatives from the Manila Bay Mandamus agencies, conducted a coconut planting activity in Baywalk Area, Manila recently.
DENR Secretary Roy A. Cimatu said the coconut planting activity is part of the ongoing cleanup and rehabilitation program of Manila Bay.
He explained that the coconuts—together with the other beach type tree species that were planted in the area—will not only help beautify the famous seafront but help enrich urban biodiversity as well.
Cimatu led the activity and was accompanied by his Undersecretaries Atty. Analiza Rebuelta-Teh (Finance, Information Systems and Climate Change); Atty. Jonas R. Leones (Policy, Planning and International Affairs); Atty. Juan Miguel T. Cuna (Field Operations and Environment); Jim O. Sampulna (Mining and Muslim Affairs); and Benny D. Antiporda (Solid Waste Management and Local Government Units Concerns).
They were joined by officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH); Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG); Department of Tourism (DOT); Metropolitan Manila and Development Authority (MMDA); and, the City Government of Manila.
Likewise present to express their support are officials from the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA), and the Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA).
DENR National Capital Region Director Jacqueline A. Caancan also joined the activity, together with representatives from EMB National Capital Region and DENR-NCR West Field Office (WFO).
Last year, DENR also led a mangrove planting activity at the lagoon area of Baseco in Port Area, Manila in support of the #BattleForManilaBay. (PIA NCR)
