QUEZON CITY, June 23 (PIA) -- The Department of Environment and Natural Resources National Capital Region joins other stakeholders in planting more trees along the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX).
Led by Regional Executive Director Jacqueline A. Caancan, the DENR NCR joined the office of Valenzuela City District 2 Representative and Deputy Speaker, Hon. Eric M. Martinez, and North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) Corporation President and General Manager, J. Luigi L. Bautista, in a Ceremonial Tree Planting activity at the SMART Connect Interchange of the expressway in Barangay Ugong, Valenzuela City on Monday, 22 June 2021.
The activity was conducted in line with the celebration of Philippine Environment Month and Philippine Arbor Day on Friday, 25 June 2021.
RED Caancan, along with Conservation and Development Division (CDD) Chief Aida E. Esguerra, Production Forest Management Section (PFMS) Chief Arturo G. Calderon, and National Greening Project (NGP) Operation Center Head, Benedicto C. Paguyo, participated in Igem-dagat (Dacrycarpus imbricatus), Palawan Cherry (Cassia megalantha Decne), and Bougainville in the area in support of the greening efforts of NLEX.
RED Caancan lauded the efforts of NLEX and enjoined other private companies to initiate greening projects in their area of operations.
“Not only do trees help improve the environment with its ability to absorb pollutants and dissipate heat, it also helps our employees and all the people who see urban greens relax and mellow out”, she explained.
“This is on top of increasing the value of the land where the trees and plants grow,” she added.
“DENR National Capital Region is very much willing to partner with groups and organizations in Metro Manila in their greening efforts”, she further said.
Canaan said the importance of trees in urban areas cannot be overstated.
"We need trees to make our cities sustainable and liveable,” she said. (PIA NCR)
