CALOOCAN CITY, June 23 (PIA) -- The Philippine Government is optimistic it could inoculate at least 200,000 people daily as long as the country has a steady supply of COVID-19 vaccines, said Department of Health (DOH) Undersecretary and National Vaccination Operations Center (NVOC) Chairman Myrna Cabotaje.

During Monday's edition of the Laging Handa Public Briefing, Cabotaje said aside from the steady supply, the target figure can also be achieved if local governments can increase public uptake and confidence in the vaccines among their citizens in the different priority groups.

"In the end, sila naman ang mag-aadminister (they will be the ones to administer), we will just facilitate, there is a vaccination rollout team headed by Secretary [Carlito] Galvez and Secretary [Vivencio] Dizon to look ano yung target nila (into their targets) so we can have a supply plan and ensure that targets are met in the coming months," Cabotaje said.

She added that with the arrival of additional doses of 10 million per month from June to August, the government is now ready to inoculate the Priority Group A4 or economic frontliners and A5 or the indigent population.

"It will depend on the global supply, but we have been assured that Sinovac will give a steady supply every month and we are going to receive the Pfizer from Covax and we will receive an additional [AstraZeneca] Covax from the two million initially," Cabotaje said.

As of May 18, the country has administered nearly 3.3 million doses, in which 2.5 million got their first doses and 786,000 have received their second doses. (PIA NCR)
