MANILA, (PIA) -- The Philippines' overall tally of COVID-19 patients who recovered from the disease has reached 1,960,487 as 12,337 new recoveries were recorded as of Thursday.

The Department of Health (DOH) said the figure is equivalent to a 90.7-percent recovery rate from a total of 2,161,892 infections since the start of the pandemic last year.

The DOH also tallied a record-high 22,820 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the total number of active cases in the country to 166,672 or 7.7 percent of all cases.

Of the active cases, 87 percent are mild, 8.3 percent are asymptomatic, 1.4 percent are severe, 2.4 percent are moderate, and 0.7 percent are in critical condition.

Also logged were 61 new fatalities, raising the death toll to 34,733 or 1.61 percent of the total number of cases.

The DOH said 108 duplicates were removed from the total case count as 96 of those were recoveries.

Meanwhile, 29 cases previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

According to DOH data on September 7, about 29.4 percent of the 74,706 who were tested turned out positive for COVID-19.

All laboratories were operational on Sept. 7 and five labs were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS).

Based on data in the past 14 days, the five non-reporting labs contribute, on average, 2.3 percent of samples tested and 2.6 percent of positive individuals. (PIA-NCR)
