3rd KBP showcases DSWD-NCR’s success in 4Ps, Food STAMP, and AKAP Programs

QUEZON CITY, (PIA) – The Department of Social Welfare and Development – National Capital Region (DSWD-NCR) will take center stage on June 11, in the third episode of Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas (KBP) to discuss its efforts in combating poverty and hunger in Metro Manila.

The 9:00 a.m. episode will feature a conversation led by DSWD-NCR Regional Director Atty. Michael Joseph J. Lorico, along with Assistant Regional Director for Administration Benchie Gonzales and Social Welfare Officer V and Division Chief of the Protective Services Division Atty. Norjanizah Airah R. Calaca.

As the lead government agency for social protection and poverty reduction, DSWD-NCR will highlight its programs under five key areas:

1. Well-being of poor families: The discussion will focus on the department's ongoing programs, including the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), a conditional cash transfer initiative, and the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), which equips disadvantaged individuals with resources for long-term economic stability.

2. Rights of vulnerable sectors: This segment will explore programs like the Centers and Residential Care Facilities (CRCF) for vulnerable populations. It will also cover initiatives such as the Supplementary Feeding Program, social stipends for senior citizens, and support programs for victims of trafficking and those in crisis situations.

3. Disaster relief and recovery: DSWD-NCR plays a crucial role in assisting Filipinos during natural or human-caused disasters. The KBP episode will delve into the department's disaster response efforts, including providing aid to internally displaced persons and collaborating with local government units (LGUs) across Metro Manila.

4. Ensuring quality social welfare services: DSWD-NCR is tasked with monitoring the efficiency of social welfare and development agencies (SWDAs) and service providers. This includes registering and licensing SWDAs and accrediting their programs and personnel.

5. LGU-delivered programs: DSWD-NCR provides technical and financial support to LGUs for crucial programs like FOOD STAMP, which tackles hunger and promotes productivity among low-income households.

Panelists will discuss Oplan Pag-Abot, which addresses the needs of vulnerable populations on the streets; Tara, Basa! The Tutoring Programme, which offers educational opportunities; and the Ayuda para sa Kapos ang Kita Program (AKAP), which helps families on the brink of poverty.

The KBP episode is also expected to see the launch of a new DSWD-NCR initiative titled "Project Resolve." (PIA-NCR)
