QUEZON CITY, (PIA) – The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will deploy a total of 1,257 personnel for the upcoming Undas observance, ensuring a smooth and orderly experience for the public.

This comprehensive plan includes a strict no-absence policy for all personnel during the holiday period.

In a meeting with the Philippine National Police – Highway Patrol Group, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), and traffic bureau chiefs from all Metro Manila local government units, the MMDA outlined its traffic management plans and emergency responses to accommodate the anticipated influx of passengers heading to provincial cemeteries.

MMDA Chairman Atty. Don Artes highlighted the importance of proactive measures to alleviate traffic congestion on major roads and thoroughfares leading to cemeteries. “We are implementing a strict no-absence policy for all personnel during Undas,” Artes stated, “to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and a safe travel experience for everyone.”

The field personnel will come from various MMDA divisions, including the Traffic Discipline Office, Special Operations Group-Strike Force, Metro Parkways Clearing Group, and Road Emergency Group. These personnel will be strategically stationed in priority areas such as bus terminals, cemeteries, and major roadways.

To enhance public safety, the MMDA will activate its “Oplan Undas 2024” from October 27 to November 4. The initiative includes a “No Day Off, No Absent Policy” for traffic personnel, with shifts extended until midnight before and after Undas to increase visibility and improve traffic management.

Additionally, the Road Emergency Group will deploy 12 tow trucks and 6 ambulances to provide assistance and respond to emergencies. Help desks and command posts will be established in bus terminals to aid travelers.

The Metro Parkways Clearing Group will commence cleanup operations around cemeteries starting October 26 and continuing through November 4, ensuring a clean environment for visitors.

The MMDA Communications and Command Center will monitor traffic conditions in the National Capital Region around the clock, supported by 30 camera units deployed at five major cemeteries, including Manila North Cemetery, Manila South Cemetery, Bagbag Public Cemetery in Quezon City, Loyola Memorial Park in Marikina, and San Juan Public Cemetery.
