MANILA, (PIA) — First Lady Louise “Liza” Araneta-Marcos led the much-awaited lighting of Meralco’s Liwanag Park in historic Intramuros, Manila, Thursday night.

The First Lady graced the holiday occasion together with Intramuros Administration Administrator Atty. Joan Padilla, One Meralco Foundation Senior Vice President and Chief Revenue Officer Ferdinand Geluz, Tourism Undersecretary Ferdinand Jumapao, Manila Mayor Dr. Honey Lacuna-Pangan, Senators Chiz Escudero and Mark Villar, and other special guests.

Intramuros Administrator Atty. Joan Padilla thanked Meralco for bringing the Christmas tradition to the historic walls of Intramuros.

Atty. Padilla said the lights symbolize our tribute to our ancestors and hope to Filipinos especially those recently affected by the typhoons.

Likewise, One Meralco Foundation Senior Vice President and Chief Revenue Officer Ferdinand Geluz said that it is an honor for them to bring the Meralco Liwanag Park in Intramuros as he reaffirms Meralco’s commitment to lighting homes and landmarks.

He added that the spark connects our past, present and future.

The Christmas attraction is patterned after the annual Liwanag Park at the Meralco main office in Ortigas Avenue, Pasig City.

For the Intramuros Liwanag Park, Plaza Roma in front of Manila Cathedral is adorned with Christmas lights and decors, with pathways to be lined with stars and solar lamps. The park will also feature an arch of lights for the entrance, a giant Christmas tree made of electric meters, a Meralco tranvia, and a giant parol.

The Intramuros Liwanag Park is a strategic public-private partnership initiative that aligns with the IA’s overall vision of revitalizing Intramuros.

Anchoring on the Philippines’ reputation for its festive Christmas celebration and traditions, this display of lights and other Christmas installations is expected to draw visitors to Intramuros where they can experience a magical holiday experience with the historic walled city.

The Meralco Liwanag Park in Intramuros is free and open to the public. It will run daily from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM until January 6, 2025. (JEG/PIA-NCR)
